Facebook ad account disabled: recovery steps that work
By Spear Systems · 2 min read ·
First, identify your level — Meta treats these differently:
- Closed, inactive, or deactivated: you (or someone with full control) can reactivate it in Ads Manager or Business Suite. No appeal needed.
- Restricted/disabled: appealable through Business Support Home. This is the common case and the rest of this guide.
- Banned: permanent. No path back; the work is protecting your other assets.
The recovery path
- Go to Business Support Home, open Account overview, select the restricted account.
- Follow the “What you can do” section — Meta may ask you to confirm identity, complete verification, secure the account, or request a review. Only an admin can request review.
- Write the appeal like the dispute guide: polite, specific, referencing the exact policy and why you comply.
- If rejected, you can try again within limits — but fix the underlying ads first. Appealing an unchanged account burns your best lever.
Deadlines that matter
- Submit review documents within 180 days of restriction.
- A disabled policy-violation account left unreinstated for six months may be permanently closed, with unused prepaid balances forfeited where allowed by law.
- Common restriction causes in practice: policy violations first, then payment issues and unusual activity, then compromised accounts. Match your appeal to the actual cause shown — a policy appeal for a payment flag wastes a round.
When appeals fail
Stop mutating and resubmitting; sustained violations escalate. Fix the creative template that produced the violations (rewrite guide, landing checklist), then appeal the cleaned account once. Overview: recovery hub.
