Google ad disapproved: fix, appeal, and the statuses that confuse
By Spear Systems · 2 min read ·
Google has three distinct restriction states and advertisers conflate them. Read yours first:
- Disapproved — the ad cannot run until fixed and re-reviewed. Standard path: read reason → fix ad, asset, and landing page → appeal. Details in the flow below.
- Limited / Limited by policy — the ad runs with reduced serving. Different machinery (account reputation, 2026 serving expansions): see limited ad serving.
- Under review — wait. Most reviews complete quickly; editing restarts the clock, so stop touching the ad.
The fix-first order (disapproved)
Fix the ad AND the destination, then appeal once: Status → Appeal → reason (Dispute decision vs Made changes to comply) → Submit → track in Policy Manager → Appeal history. Batch appeals review slower — sequence important campaigns first.
The limits that burn advertisers
- 3 failed appeals per ad locks it until support intervenes.
- 24h spacing between repeat appeals; duplicates and floods suspend processing.
- In-account appeals unavailable for decisions older than 6 months (July 2026).
- Unfixed violations accumulate toward suspension: suspension guide.
Full appeal-denied protocol: when appeal fails. Landing-page layer: destination requirements. Claims layer: outcome framing.

Frequently asked questions
'Limited by policy' vs 'Disapproved' — what's the difference?
'Disapproved' means the ad cannot run until fixed and re-reviewed. 'Limited' means it runs with reduced serving driven by policy history and account reputation; the fix is a compliance rebuild, not a single dispute.
How many times can I appeal a Google ad?
Three failed appeals per ad locks it until support intervenes. Leave 24 hours between repeat appeals, and in-account appeals are unavailable for decisions older than 6 months.
My ad is clean but disapproved — appeal or edit?
Appeal once via Policy Manager with the exact policy cited. But first confirm the landing page matches: Google reviews ad and destination as one unit.
